Sun Halo ... the Sun's 'Symbol'

A marvelous Sun Halo ... that my camera captured today.

The Circle and central dot, or Circumpunct as Dan Brown calls it in his latest book, The Lost Symbol, is most widely known as the Sun Symbol. As seen above, this 360° geometry or form is not an empty symbol. It is a creative expression that the Sun itself makes ... a creative impression it makes on the Earth's atmosphere as well as on the entire solar system.

Auroville's Darker Underbelly

This morning I came upon an article about Auroville entititled 'Auroville, an achieved utopia?' It read:
'A few kilometers from Pondicherry, it became a popular tourist destination, especially since the completion of the extravagant Matrimandir. Tourists are divided into two groups: those who come for a day to see the Matrimandir from outside and a small exhibition glorifying the “Mother”, Auroville’s founder, and those coming for a longer time, longing for a community experience, philosophic teachings or alternative holidays.'

'... there are many aurovillians communities, each following a different model, and each pretending to follow the teaching of Sri Aurobindo, who inspired the “Mother”. Revelation, Aspiration, TruthThey named themselves after concepts of his philosophy.'
Considering the article did not mention the heart of Aurovillian's difficulties in living up to Sri Aurobindo and the Mother's teachings, and in being sincerely dedicated to Gnosis/Truth, I posted the following comment to the article which may or may not get approved by the site's moderator:

"For anyone interested in the darker underbelly of Auroville, the Matrimandir Action Committe website discusses the issue of the Mother’s Temple (the Matrimandir) NOT being built according to the Mother’s original vision/blue prints/sacred geometry. Aurovillians deny that there is anything ‘off’ and misleading about their Temple, but those who understand sacred geometry and its connection to the Earth, the Earth’s Day, its 12 month Year [and Vedic Gnosis], and who do not have a vested interest in what was already built in Auroville can see the distortion of the temple as detailed by in Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet's  ‘Chronicles of the Inner Chamber’. Aurovillians try to shrug off the controversy, and to discredit those who challenge the Auroville Temple’s authenticity so as to maintain the illusion of an enlightened or at least spiritually progressive community. From what I have seen, Aurovillians’ treatment of Ms. Norelli-Bachelet and her work (which includes defamation and actual book burning*), this community has a long way to go before it can truly be admired as a spiritually progressive place where Truth is valued over egoic/vested interests."

Vesica Pisces, Christ & the Zodiac

Christ in Mandorala, and the "Four Evangelists"

In a recent post ('Why Is the Year Divided Into 12 Months?') I wrote about the connection between the Vesica Pisces and the Zodiac. In the above medieval Christian iconography one can see the connection between the Vesica Pisces, the Zodiac and Christianity. Jesus is shown encompassed by a Vesica Pisces shaped 'almond' (mandorla), and surrounded by the creatures of the four fixed signs of the Zodiac – Lion (Leo), Bull (Taurus), Man (Aquarius) and Eagle (Scorpio). These figures are called the 'Four Evangelists' (thought of as the authors of the four gospels Mathew, Mark, Luke and John) whose connection to the zodiac is not widely recognized.

The four fixed signs of the Zodiac show up clearly in Revelations (4:7) as well as in Ezekiel (1:10 and 10:14). And the fish iconography of Christ and Christianity is a not so subtle reference to the 12th sign of the zodiac - Pisces, the fish. I was introduced to this link by Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet, but I have seen it presented elsewhere as well, such as in the Zeitgeist movie and website. I overlapped a Vesica Pisces on the Christian fish on Adobe Photoshop to give readers a visual of the connection between the Christian fish, the Vesica Pisces:

Here's a 8th Century CE depiction of the 'Four Evangelists' with the fixed sign symbols of the Zodiac:

Additional Notes: The fixed signs of Zodiac are also found in the Rig Veda, see: RV, I.154, translation by Sri Aurobindo). I included this Rig Veda verse in Addendum: Vishnu in the Mother’s Symbol and in Sri Aurobindo’s 'The Secret of the Veda'.

Below to the left is an image of Vishnu's in his 4th incarnation as a Lion-Man or Narasimha. The Eagle-Lion-Man to the right of Narasimha is known as Sarabha, an avatar of Shiva. Without cosmological/zodiacal knowledge these images/mythologies make little sense. Note the halo that the four evangelists, Vishnu (on the eagle to the right), and Narasimha and Sarabha below, have in common.
Painting of Narasimha, Pahari/Kangra School, ca. 18th century,
with image also of Shiva as Sarabha. [1]

Why Is the Year Divided Into 12 Months?

I am wondering if the question 'Why is our year divided into 12 Months?' stumps readers or if there is some feel for the answer already. Becoming familiar with the inherent geometries of the circle, leads to greater appreciation of this seemingly random division and greater awareness that our measure of the year is actually actually a reflection of eternal truth or dharma.

Ever and always, whether or not there are beings to appreciate the fact, the radius of the circle, when marked off on the circumference of a circle, equals 60° (1/6th) of the circle. In terms of the circle below, if one puts the point of a compass at the 0/360° point (apex) of the circle and swings the compass one way it would slice through 60° of circumference:
And if one continued the arc (or constructed a full 2nd circle) it would also slice through another 60° of the circle ... for a total of 120°:
Slicing a radius-sized arc from ONE of the two horizontal cardinal points of the circle is how one forms the Vesica Pisces as seen below.

The Vesica Pisces is thus intimately and eternally connected to the division of the circle by THREE. Put another way, the Circle's own measure – its radius – divides the Circle by THREE and produces in and of itself the perfect Triangle or Trinity of the Circle.
If one then takes into account the Earth's own geometry, in which its journey around the Sun is divided into FOUR equal parts (due to the Earth's axial tilt) marked off by the four equinoctial and solstitial points (the 4 Cardinal points) of the Earth's Year, the matter becomes clearer.

Here is what happens when two radius-sized circles are constructed along the circumference of one central circle using TWO cardinal points (along the same axis) as focal points. The original circle is divided into SIX parts:
Guess what happens when one draws four radius-sized circles using ALL FOUR Cardinal Points of the one central Circle as focal points. If you guessed that it divides the Circle into 12 equal segments, you are correct.
This phenomenon/eternal geometry of the Circle is recognized/announced/preserved in the symbol of last sign of the zodiac, Pisces:
In case it is not clear in the image/symbol above, the upper intersection of Vesica Pisces marks off 330° of the circle, i.e. the 12th part of the circle or 12th month of the year (using the apex of the circle as the 0 Point, as 0° Aries of the Tropical Year). Likewise, the lower intersection of the Vesica Pisces, marks off the 8th month of the year, Scorpio.
I hope these images make an impact on readers because the story of the zodiac, the story of the Vesica Pisces, the story of geometry and the story of the Earth's year are all the same story ... the story of how any two things, any two points of light (souls), and all points of Being and Becoming are connected by the real terms and measure of the Circle. It is truly a story worth knowing.
