‘Indian sacred architecture of whatever date, style or dedication goes back to something timelessly ancient and now outside India almost wholly lost, something which belongs to the past, and yet it goes forward too…to something which will return upon us and is already beginning to return, something which belongs to the future.

Sri Aurobindo
The Foundations of Indian Culture

F
or the first time the Mother’s superlative vision of a sacred architectural form is being brought to a larger audience; until now the numerous books published on the subject had reached only a few of the most dedicated seekers. It is therefore our intention to present a comprehensive overview of the vision she had in the early days of January 1970, in a manner that can be appreciated by a wider public. Above all, the purpose of this exhibition is to place before the viewer an aspect of the Mother’s genius that had been entirely ignored. Though it is her most remarkable legacy, it finds no place in an overview of her achievements. This exhibition proposes to correct that oversight.

To facilitate a faithful rendition of her accomplishment, we are fortunate to have not only the recordings of the Mother’s own description of what she saw in the subtle plane, but also a floor plan of the Chamber which she drew up with an engineer, bearing very exact measurements of all the relevant items so that, as she requested, the Chamber could be reproduced on this material plane with great precision, just as she saw it. The vision in such exceptional cases is only part of the revelation; the most important is the question of Measure because that consolidates the form in this material dimension as a direct transcription from the solar world. Measure creates the bridge between higher realms and the Earth dimension; the higher the source, the more exceptional the transcription.

Given the unique treasure posterity has left us, the result is that we are brought into contact with a sacred form as it was seen in the solar world, and as it could be constructed in this material dimension without the distortions of the mental and vital planes, if based on the Mother’s plan. The question of Measure assumes prominence for this purpose. It is equivalent to what was extolled in the Rig Veda as the Divine Maya. The Mother incarnated that power as it had never been done before.

The Chamber of her vision is one of its kind and can rightfully be considered the first cultural expression of the supramental Truth-Consciousness. Having made this breakthrough – that is, a pristine form transcribed direct from the Supramental plane – it serves as a fecund womb for future cultural expressions, continuously giving forth superior expressions touched by the power of Gnosis.

This exhibition of the Chamber, following the Mother’s precise architectural plan, connects her supramental Gnosis to the Vedic Age. It was her task to re-connect the sacred sciences to that ancient source, but enhanced today because of the manifestation of Supermind.

Our world is replete with marvels of architecture and contemporary technology. However, as impressive as they may be, none have any gnostic content. They are examples of human endeavours divorced from a higher reality. The Mother’s, on the other hand, is an uncontaminated transposition direct from the solar world by means of the Divine Maya which only an incarnation of the highest order can realise.

The Mother’s vision is not to be confused with a construction in cement and steel. The foremost ‘material’ adequate for a construction of this unique quality is the Light of Gnosis. She has opened the pathway, which others can now follow, to that Kingdom of the Sun.
